The Championships were conducted in Mandurah W.A with a total of 301 participants made up of 225 male and 76 female. As is usual the first day was a 4BB event with the Tuesday, Thursday and Friday being the 3 days of the Championship. The event was conducted at the Mandurah Country Club, Meadow Springs and Secret Harbour Courses which were all in excellent condition. Many WA Veteran members volunteered in very strong numbers to attend the courses to book players in, assist with Hole in One supervision, mark off the players returning after their round of golf and helping with scoring and input issues. This championship was the first AVGU Championship where the Miscore App was used. This was adopted by about 85% of the players and made the processing of results and the time taken to announce the winners considerably easier and faster. The Tournament Committee were grateful to participants for their support in using this app.
The overall results of the Championship are listed below. The Men’s Champion was from Western Australia and is only the second National Champion to come from Western Australia. The first was Bob Howe in 1998.
Nutri Mate – manufacturers of dog food products – sponsored a hole in one at one of the par 3 holes at all three courses. The prize – $1000 for the first hole in one at each of the three courses.
There was a hole in one at the first hole at the Mandurah Country Club course – which was won by Gary Hughes from the Denmark Club in Western Australia.
